my latest reads.

books. books. books. and more books!

I seriously have a crazy obsession! I read in the car, while walking through the grocery store, or even while walking down the sidewalk. Really though, I do all of the above. So, today I thought I would share with you a few of my latest reads and also how crazy in love I am with my new Journaling Bible.

1.  Crazy Love by Francis Chan.

Being overwhelmed by a relentless God. Francis Chan does such an amazing job describing God’s all-powerful, radical, unconditional and self-sacrificing love for us. We should hunger deep inside our hearts to break free from the worldly so called “normal” ways of life. We should hunger for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, and radical solutions. God calls us to have a passionate love relationship with Himself. Once you fall in love with Jesus and encounter His love, you will never be the same. When you are wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.

>> I have added this book as part of my nightly devotionals, and it is just so incredible. Every word I just want to write down and highlight. It’s now at the top of my LOVE list! So convicting.

Favorite Quote:

The wildest part is that Jesus doesn’t have to love us. His being is utterly complete and perfect, apart from humanity. He doesn’t need me or you. Yet He wants us, chose us, even considers us His inheritance. The greatest knowledge we can ever have is knowing God treasures us. – francis chan.

2. Dug Down Deep by Joshua Harris.

Unearthing what I believe and why it matters. This book was just all together amazing! This is probably one of the most convicting books I have ever read. It really makes you think about what your life is built on. Harris talks about having a true foundation in Christ, and having an informed knowledge of God. I love how he really lays his heart down and his honesty is so humbling. He also describes the importance of really understanding theology. Root your faith and feelings about God in the person, work, and words of Jesus. Dig deep into a faith so solid that you can build your life on it.

Harris answers questions like:

  • What is God like and how does He speak to me?
  • What difference does it make that Jesus was both human and divine?
  • How does Jesus’s death on the cross pay for my sins?
  • Who is the Holy Spirit and how does He work in my life?

Favorite Quote:

Theology matters because if we get it wrong then our whole life will be wrong. – joshua harris.

3. Do Hard Things by Alex & Brett Harris.

A teenage rebellion against low expectations. Alex and Brett Harris (twin brothers of Joshua Harris) focus on rebelling against the low expectations of today’s culture by choosing to “Do Hard Things” all for the glory of God. They give a pure and compelling form that gives everyone a tangible glimpse of what is possible for those that actively resist cultural lies that limit their potential. I love how they weave together Biblical insights, history, and modern examples to real life problems. Their five powerful ways to respond to personal and social changes are incredible! I love how they take their practical examples and stories from their personal life and tie it all together. After all, a generation stands on the brink of “Rebelution.” Rest assured and lay claim to a brighter future today! This is another one of those must reads!

Favorite Quotes:

Whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Every action, no matter how small, is defining our future harvest. – alex & brett harris.

It’s possible to be so concerned with what has happened in the past, or so caught up in what’s happening in the present, that we pay no attention to what God has for us next. – alex & brett harris.

I have absolutely fallen in love with my Crossway Journaling Bible! I honestly have no idea how I have lived with out it for so long! My Micron Markers & Prisma Color Pencils are the perfect tools for me to be able to quickly jot down my thoughts. Plus, having the 2″ margin to write down notes and doodle in makes every quiet time that much more special. I highly recommend adding a journaling Bible to your collection! You won’t be sorry!
