Be a Bright Light.
I’m sure we have all heard this at some point. You better set an example, be a bright light for Christ. But do we truly know what it means to be a bright light?
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven. -Matthew 5:14-16
As Christians, we are the lights. We should be the Bright Lights, the ones setting an example to all the unbelievers in our world. Our lights should be bold, bright, unwavering, not put under a basket, but put on a stand where everyone can see.
It might be hard at times, we as sinful humans have the tendency to always want to fit in, but if we are out witnessing and doing things that please Christ, we won’t be like the rest of the sinful world, we will be different. We might get ridiculed, harassed, maybe even persecuted, but keep on striving with endurance the race that is set before us. Keep on being that bright light for Christ!
That you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. – Philippians 2:15-16
Jesus, born on earth as a baby, lived a sinless life, humbled himself to a cross, defeated death, and rose three days later, is definitely an illustration that should leave us humbled, thankful, and should makes us want to strive to be even brighter lights for Christ. We should want to do everything we possibly can to please God. Yes, we won’t ever be perfect, only God is perfect, but we should strive not to sin. Strive to please Christ in our day to day actions.
So, how fearlessly and bright is your light shining??
If we walk in light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and He cleanses us from all sin. -1 John 1:7
May we be a light on a hill. May we in this latter day be a beacon to the world. -Elder L. Tom Perry
