“Rejoice, and be glad”
“A rejoicing heart soon makes a praising tongue.” -Charles Spurgeon
Wow! Such a powerful quote! As I really meditated on this, I begin to ask myself if I had a rejoicing heart that was pleasing to God. Think about it, if we have a rejoicing heart that is pleasing to God, we will have a praising tongue that is also pleasing to Him. As Christians, we should have both of these attributes.
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. -Ephesians 4:29
I know a lot of people that are grumpy, discontent with their lives, they don’t have Christ’s love. They don’t have the light of Christ. If we are not happy, it shows in our actions and attitudes. Who wants to be around anyone that has a sour attitude?
A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit. -Proverbs 15:13
Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. -Ephesians 4:31
As Christians, we should be glad and rejoicing because we have Christ. He died for us! He went through so much pain so that we could live in eternity with Him someday. How can you not smile and rejoice with that incredible sacrifice that we don’t deserve? We are not like the rest of the world, we are not dead in sin, we have the light of Christ if we believe and trust in Christ as our Savior.
This gets us to the main point: If we are not showing the light of Christ to those around us, how are we going to lead those that are lost to Christ? How in the world are we going to make an impact on the lost world around us? We can’t, it’s not possible. Why would anybody listen to what we have to say when we act discontent?
Let me encourage you, the next time you go out and witness, show Christ’s love to those that are lost. When we aren’t looking for our happiness in the world, when Christ is our foundation to our happiness, it’s obvious that we are different from the world. We have something worth living for. So, Rejoice and be glad because we have Christ!
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. -1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say rejoice! -Philippians 4:4
